The Kirkstone Pass end of the Ullswater Valley was the scene of much Lead mining and some Slate quarrying. This meet will explore some of these workings, choice depending on weather conditions on the day. All of these Mines are crumbling and present challenging conditions, including the use of SRT. So this meet is graded Difficut SRT.
Capacity limit is 8 persons in total.
Saturday will be an epic trip down an extensive lead mine near Mold. It will involve at least 2 miles of wading in thigh deep water.
Sunday is a more recreational visit to Moel Fferna (but it does require SRT skills to get down (and back up) the entrance shaft).
THERE ARE TWO PLACES LEFT (14/11/2017)
CATMHS Annual General Meeting is where member review the year, appoint officials and vote on various motions. This is free of charge and open to all members.
CATMHS Annual Christmas Party follows the AGM and costs £23 per person. A full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. A fabulous opportunity to meet some old and new friends. All welcome, and you can even bring guests.
The venue is Rydal Hall (between Ambleside and Grasmere). This magnificent small stately home was funded by royalties from Coniston Coppermines and is still a magnificent venue. Accommodation is available on site but must be booked well in advance. Contact John R Aird for tickets.
The morning after the Christmas Party. This will be a refreshing walk around the multiple slate Quarry workings. There is much to see in this area and you are never far from the car park so you can do as much or as little as you like. Meet grade is Easy as no technical underground requirements. The area is rocky and slippery when wet and some of the areas we can visit hold water up to welly depth and there is one optional tight squeeze.
No capacity constraints on this meet.
