A Family Friendly Meet in the Tilberthwaite Valley. We will meet at the large car park at Tilberthwaite Gill (GR NY3062 0102) at 10am. The route will vary depending on weather conditions. If the weather is fine we will walk up to the Tilberthwaite Copper Mines and explore the extensive remains in the valley above Tilberthwaite Gill. If the weather is rough, we will visit Horse Crag Level and have a picnic underground. Helmets, headtorches and wellies required for the underground option. All welcome as this is an “easy” meet open to guests as well.
Please bring a packed lunch and suitable clothing for the conditions.
Note – mine exploration is a high-risk sport and it is not possible to reduce all risks to a low level. CATMHS seek to support exploration in a safe manner while recognising that significant risks will remain and the safety of the activity will ultimately depend on the ability of the group and participants to take sensible actions to ensure exploration is conducted with a reasonable margin of safety. However accidents and incidents can happen and everyone taking part in this event do so at their own risk.
