A meet to explore the extensive mine workings in the Newlands Valley up towards Dalehead. This area was worked in the 16th and 18th Centuries for Copper.  There are some very interesting surface wokings and a few underground adits to explore if you have the appetite.  Some of these are wet. If the weather conditions are suitable, we can walk up to Dalehead Crags and visit the mines up at the top of the valley. If the weather conditions are poor we will stay in the valley itself.

The meet grade is “easy” with no technical requirements.  If we visit the Dalehead Crags level there is some steep ground to navigate, but this is optional.

Note – mine exploration is a high-risk sport and it is not possible to reduce all risks to a low level. CATMHS seek to support exploration in a safe manner while recognising that significant risks will remain and the safety of the activity will ultimately depend on the ability of the group and participants to take sensible actions to ensure exploration is conducted with a reasonable margin of safety. However accidents and incidents can happen and everyone taking part in this event do so at their own risk.
