Press Release from the Newland Furnace Trust - 8th August 2008

HISTORY REVEALED

Since last year's Heritage Open Day new discoveries have been made at the 18th century charcoal burning iron furnace at Newland( access from the A590 one mile east of Ulverston)

To see the latest developments come on Saturday September 13th 2008 for a free guided tour between 10.00 and 16.30 hours.

Under the national Heritage Open Day scheme visitors will be welcomed to places not normally open to the public so this is an opportunity to learn about the history of the furnace and its importance to the industrial development of the Furness peninsula.

The Cumbria Amenity Trust Mining History Society (CATMHS) is a society interested in historical industrial sites with an emphasis on mining remains above and below ground. it is actively involved with the exploration of these sites.
