Goldscope is one of the oldest Copper Mines in Cumbria, dating back to the 1560’s. This meet explores the earliest underground workings here and the audacious engineering. We can also visit some of the extensive Victorian Lead mining that used some of the same Elizabethan levels.
The walk is moderate with a few steep & rocky sections. There is a nice SRT option for those who wish to explore below Adit and an interesting traverse to see more coffin levels. Please bring your SRT gear or harness & cowstails if you wish to take these options. Everyone needs helmet & headtorch & gloves as much of this meet is underground.
There is a few inches of water in some levels.
Bring food and clothing suitable for a full day exploring.
