Difficult

A trip to a seldom visited, extensive Arkengarthdale lead mine. There are opportunities to explore extensive working places and see some fantastically preserved artifacts. For the cavers among us modified natural caverns and some of the north Pennines famous maze cave features are examinable throughout.
The mine features some moderate squeezes & stooping but is mostly typical dry walking height horse level with some small scrambling sections (Think Nenthead). Upon first entering the level two falls have been dug through which lead to short sections of waist deep water. Waders can be used to good effect here and a roomy junction afterwards acts as a changing room/place to store your waders for the rest of the trip. The mine is Dry after this point. No SRT required.
Start time is 10am finishing around 6pm.
Meet will be able to go ahead in most weather conditions unless the rain is utterly biblical to the point roads aren’t passable. Meet location is the roadside car park opposite the CB Inn in Arkengarthdale, Approach to the mine is via a long fell track only suitable for 4x4s, Transport from parking spot to the mine will be provided however if any attendees wish to bring vehicles of this nature they would come in handy!
