Richard Neilson will lead a meet to the little visited but interesting Hartside Barytes Mines which were worked by the Hedworth Barium Co Ltd of Hebburn and later acquired by B. Laporte & Co. working the mines into the 1940’s when the Barytes was taken to Silverband Mine. The coal mines in the area are also being visited, and all the mines were connected to various tramways. Check here or with the meet leader before coming to the meet as it will be weather dependant given the area being visited is exposed. Note the meet is on a Saturday.
